Admissions are open to school and college students’ hostels meant for students from the Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities and Minorities in the district, Collector K.S. Palanisamy has said. The district has 24 boys and 15 girls hostels. For college students, there are six for men and five for women. Students studying in classes 4 to 12 are eligible for admission. Graduate, postgraduate and polytechnic students can join the hostels meant for college students. The residence of applicants should be more than 8 km away from their educational institution.
