Flying squads to oversee rice distribution

Taluk-level flying squads and block-level monitoring officers have been appointed to oversee the functioning of the free rice Scheme that was flagged off here on Wednesday. The scheme was inaugurated at Kuthalam by Collector C.Munianathan.

It proposes to cover 4,23,818 family cardholders, through 722 fair price shops in the district. These include 576 full-time fair price shops, and 100 part-time shops, under the ambit of the department of cooperatives; 20 fair price shops under the department of Fisheries and Animal Husbandry; eight shops under Magalir Thittam through women's self-help groups; and 18 fair price shops through women-run agencies.

All eight taluks will have flying squads and block-level monitoring officers would monitor the functioning of the scheme, Mr.Munianathan said.

All fair price shops have been directed to ensure adequate stock of food grains and display boards to create awareness of the scheme .

Perambalur

A total of 24,101 beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme in the district will get 35 kg of free rice every month, said Collector M. Vijayakumar.

Speaking after inaugurating the free rice scheme at the Amaravathy fair price shop here on Wednesday, the Collector said that a total of 5,324 cardholders in the Perambalur taluk; 6,197 in Veppanthattai taluk and 12,580 in Kunnam taluk would get the rice.

This apart, a total of 1,29,935 card-holders would get free rice weighing between12 and 20 kg every month. The beneficiaries included 35,429 cardholders in Perambalur taluk; 35,377 in Veppanthattai and 59,129 cardholders in Kunnam taluk.

The Collector said that as many as 1,54,036 cardholders under the above two schemes would benefit in the district .

Subramanian, District Revenue Officer; R. Revathy, Revenue Divisional Officer; Sundararaj, District Supply Officer, were among those present.

Ariyalur

District Collector T.K. Ponnusamy inaugurated the scheme by distributing free rice to a few eligible cardholders at the fair price shop on the College Road.

Explaining the arrangements made for ensuring prompt distribution of free rice to the cardholders, the Collector said that adequate stock had been moved to all 422 fair price shops in the district. A total of 4,589 tonnes of rice would be supplied every month to the beneficiaries. While 3,390 tonnes of rice would be allotted to 1,78,232 cardholders who would get 20 kg of rice each, the balance 1,199 tonnes would go to 34,251 beneficiaries of the Antyodaya Anna Yojana scheme.

R. Pitchai, District Revenue Officer; R. Ramamurthy, Regional Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, were present.

Pudukottai

A total of 4,02,661 card-holders in the district would get free rice under the two schemes.

In an official press release issued here on Wednesday , A. Suganthi, District Collector, said that the distribution would be effected through the fair price shops.

G.S. Ramadasu, District Revenue Officer, inspected a few shops and ensured proper distribution of the free rice to the eligible cardholders.

The Regional Joint Director of Cooperative Societies, M. Pazhnivelu, inspected the distribution programme in a few fair price shops at Tirumayam and Pudukottai.

The district administration has nominated zonal officers for supervising proper supply and distribution of rice.
