Driving is a nightmarish experience for B. Mathew Lenin of Duraisamy Puram whenever he drives a cab for picking up school going children from State Bank of India (SBI) officers’ colony in Cantonment.

He needs to negotiate very carefully as half of the colony does not have road connectivity.

His vehicle often veers off from the mud road, particularly on rainy days.

He is not the only one, who struggles in the absence of proper road.

A large number of residents, who have become owners of the newly developed flats in the area, experience the tough situation.

Though the Colony is located a little away from the bustling atmosphere, which is usually associated with any city, it has become an important residential locality in Tiruchi with many apartments that had sprung up about six years ago.

A few more modern flats have been spruced up for commissioning soon.

However, residents feel that the Tiruchirappalli City Corporation is yet to offer its full services to the area. Though a new road was laid recently in the Colony, only half of the main road has been covered.

The area beyond Vin Paradise has been left out totally. In spite of repeated pleas, the authorities have failed to cover all areas.

“As many as six years have passed since I shifted my residence after buying a flat. But in terms of amenities, nothing has changed. We are yet to get proper road, drainage and other facilities,” rues a flat dweller in Vin Paradise.

He said facilities such as storm water drain, cable duct, stainless steel name boards and others had not been provided.

There was no response to repeated pleas in the form of petitions and memorandums.

While stating the flat dwellers were prompt in payment of property and other taxes to the Corporation, a resident said it should give adequate importance to offer all basic civic amenities in the extended areas.
