The proficiency of South Indians in English had enabled the country to outshine many nations, including China, in the information technology revolution, said, V.M. Muthukumar, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, on Wednesday.

Inaugurating a crash course in spoken English and personality development organised by the Placement and Training Cell of the university, he said besides creating lakhs of jobs for Indians in multinational companies (MNCs), the IT revolution had changed the perception of the West about Indians. The intellectual attitude, hard work, and sincerity had earned accolades for Indians, particularly South Indians, abroad.

Stressing the importance of bringing more students in English club, Mr. Muthukumar said the country had been marching ahead in various other fields.

A silent revolution was being witnessed in both school and higher education.

Pointing out the personalities who achieved success in their respective career, the Vice-Chancellor said the reading habit had added value to their career.

Newspaper reading would not only improve their English and Tamil language proficiency but also make them fit to take part in competitive examinations.

Hence, the students should develop the habit of newspaper reading.

The Vice-Chancellor said many people were toiling hard to earn money.

Though it was important for a decent living, earning money alone should not be cultivated in life.

Mangaleswaran, Syndicate Member, and rasanna, Co-ordinator, Placement and Training Cell, spoke.

Later, Mr. Muthukumar inaugurated the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre.

R. Karpaga Kumaravel, Director-in-charge, took part in it.
