Efforts on for speedy delivery of postal articles

A special postal cover to mark the silver jubilee of the Post Forum was released at the Head Post Office here on Friday.

Suvendu Swain, Post Master General, Central Region, Tiruchi, said the forum has been instrumental in fostering relationship between the public and the postal personnel. It has been catering to the people’s needs by improvising services. The first cover was received by J. Selvaraj, a senior member of the forum.

A.K. Firoze Mohideen, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, said India Post has entered into an agreement with the Jet Airways for speedy delivery of registered and speed posts booked at the Head Post Office (HPO) here between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Postal articles for Chennai would be delivered the next working day while registered and speed post articles for Ernakulam, Kochi, Thiruvannathapuram, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, they would be delivered within two to three days.

As many as 256 post offices have been brought under core banking solution in the central region covering Cuddalore, Villupuram, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Tiruchi, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur and Pudukottai districts. It has been planned to open a philately museum at the HPO to give information to the public about the history of postal stamps.
