With about a month left for the 10 State conference of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam at Pirattiyur on the outskirts of Tiruchi city, preparatory work for the mega event has gathered momentum.

The party chief M. Karunanidhi had come out with an announcement on the Tiruchi conference at a public meeting in Chennai on December 21.

The district unit has already completed more than 50 per cent of the work, much to the satisfaction of the party high command.

A 200-acre sprawling site has been identified for holding the conference.

K. N. Nehru, Tiruchi district secretary of the party and chairman of the organising committee, has been visiting Chennai time and again to apprise the high command of the progress made and get suggestions for speeding up the work.

A few days ago, Mr. Nehru called on Mr. Karunanidhi, who gave him certain suggestions.

The party president also finalised the design for the entrance to the conference venue on the occasion.

While the conference entrance will be a replica of the Delhi Red Fort, the pandal entrance will be a replica of Parliament.

13 committees

The DMK headquarters had released a list of 13 committees for the successful conduct of the conference.

Urban district and union-level meetings were held to gather support for the conference in Tiruchi and adjoining districts.

District secretaries and party functionaries from across the State have been visiting Tiruchi to express their solidarity with the organisers and monitor the preparation works.

Senior party leader Ko. Si. Mani, district secretaries I. Periyasamy (Dindigul), L. Mookaiah (Theni), P. Moorthy (Madurai Rural), M. R. K. Panneerselvam (Cuddalore) along with former Speaker Sedapatti R. Muthiah visited the conference venue.
