The Tiruchi Corporation is seeking to give a push to the State government’s scheme to regularise unapproved layouts and has decided to organise special camps every week to receive applications.
Although the scheme has been in force for more than a year, public response was rather lukewarm in the initial days. With the city having a large number of unapproved layouts, the Corporation, a couple of months back, started organising special camps at periodic intervals to receive applications and to popularise the scheme. Following this, the response to the scheme has improved.
“So far, 822 applications have been processed leading to the collection of ₹6.92 crore as development charges. We want to sensitise owners of unapproved plots about the scheme and to make use of it since according to available indications, the scheme is not likely to be extended beyond the already announced deadline of November 3,” a senior official of the civic body said.
According to the data gathered by the Corporation, the city has 354 unapproved layouts with about 21,000 plots in the city. Nearly 15,000 of these plots were situated in the newly added wards of 61 to 65. The five new wards were created following the merger of Tiruverumbur town panchayat and Pappakurichi, Ellakudi, Keezha Kalkandarkottai and Alathur panchayats with the Corporation following the delimitation exercise in 2010.
Individual plots are regularised after the Local Planning Authority approves the layouts. Layout approvals are granted after the owners or promoters comply with rules such as provision of open space reservation and relevant documents.
Officials said that plots in unapproved plots, even if buildings have already been constructed on them, too have to be regularised. Failure to get approvals would lead to problems in getting building plan approvals, power and water connections, the Corporation has warned.
The Corporation will now conduct special camps on Fridays every week at all the four zonal offices of Ariyamangalam, Golden Rock, Srirangam and K. Abishekapuram to receive applications until November 3.
Applicants have to pay development charge of ₹500 a sq.m., besides the regularisation charge of ₹100 a sq.m.
