Congress cadre staged a demonstration in the city on Saturday as part of a State-wide agitation called by the party to condemn the “autocratic and fascist” policies of BJP government at the Centre.

The demonstration staged in front of Arunchala Mandram, the Congress office in the city, was led by Urban District Congress president V. Jawahar. The cadre also condemned “murder of democracy” in Karnataka by the BJP. The party charged the BJP of seeking to take the country on the path of autocracy with the fascist objective of promoting ‘one party, one rule and one culture.’

Similar demonstrations were staged at Manapparai and No.1 Tollgate in the district.
