A fossil museum at Varanavasi in Tirumanur Union in the district was inaugurated on Wednesday by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami through video-conference.

Government Chief Whip Thamarai S. Rajendran, Collector T.G. Vinay and Jayankondam MLA J.K.N. Ramajeyalingam were present at the museum on the occasion.

The museum, established at a cost of ₹2 crore by the departments of Tourism, Culture and HR & CE, would sensitise the younger generation to evidences of the existence of rocks of marine origin dating back to several million years, he said.

The museum also showcases skeletons of dinosaurs and other associated reptilians of that era.
