Sri Vishnu of Christ the King Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam, topped Thanjavur district with a score of 1,180. “I expected good marks but now I’m extremely happy to have emerged the district topper, said Sri Vishnu who expressed his eagerness to pursue mechanical engineering.
P. Surya of the same school and N. Sathiya of Town Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam, finished second with a score of 1,178 marks.
Surya’s father Parthiban is a bus conductor with Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Kumbakonam, and mother Shanthi works as a teacher in a middle school.
The student from Anaikarai too wants to become an engineer. L. Marimuthu of Laural HSS, Pallikondan near Pattukottai, came third in the district with a score of 1,177.
K. Baskaran, Collector, and S. Mathi, Chief Educational Officer, congratulated the students.
Baskaran said that Thanjavur revenue district comprising of Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, and Pattukottai educational districts recorded 90.03 per cent result this year.
This is 1.5 per cent more than last year. Of the total 27,181 candidates who appeared for the examination, 24,417 students have emerged successful.
Of the thirty schools which recorded 100 per cent pass, five are government schools.
