Two lorries seized, fine levied

The Revenue Department officials seized two sand lorries when they detected that they were not carrying valid permits to transport sand at Kulithalai late on Sunday night.

Kulithalai Tahsildar Nehru and his team were conducting vehicle checks when they intercepted one sand lorry at Sunga Gate area and found that the quarrying permit papers were not authentic. They seized the vehicle and levied a fine of Rs. 26,000.

Another lorry without permit was seized near the Periya Palam area. The officials slapped a fine of Rs. 27,000 on the owner of the vehicle.

Revenue officials have warned that strict action would be taken against errant sand transporters without valid papers.
