DVAC sources said the accused demanded Rs. 1,000 as bribe apart from the legal fee from M. Bashir Ahmed (40), a resident of Valluvar Nagar in Airport area, for arranging a new service connection.

Bashir Ahmed who owns a house at Valluvar Nagar had decided to bifurcate his home into two to set aside a portion for rent. He had applied for new service connection for the bifurcated portion to the office of the Asssistant Executive Engineer (Operation & Maintenance), TNEB at Sembattu a few days ago.

Sources said that the DVAC registered a case upon receiving a complaint from Bashir Ahmed on Monday. A trap was laid and Bilal and Barnabas were caught red handed while obtaining the bribe amount from Bashir Ahmed.
