The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department has expedited the work on the renovation of Samayapuram Sri Mariamman temple near here with an eye on performing “kumbabhishekam” soon. The State government’s approval was being awaited for performing the maha kumbabhishekam.

The authorities have chalked out a comprehensive plan for renovating the ceiling of the stone structures at the Maavilakku mandapam where paintings of flowers and decorative designs adorn the walls. Work on the construction of the “rajagopuram” had been completed on the western and southern sides of the temple. The gopuram on the northern side would be completed within four months. The new rajagopuram on the eastern side would take a longer time but its “kalkaram” would be ready in three months so that the “maha kumbabhishekam” could be performed without any hitch.

Sources said the department had taken up work on the construction of a restaurant in front of the guest house. The guest house with 24 suits, including 12 air-conditioned ones, is ready. Now, the work on restaurant had been taken up.

A queue complex at the master complex area has been planned so that additional facilities could be provided to the devotees. “Thousands of devotees visit the temple on major festival days and the queue complex would help them, on the lines of Sri Saneeswarar temple in Tirunallar, to regulate the queue without any hassle. Toilets and other basic amenities would be provided at the queue complex,” he said.
