The overall pass percentage in the district has dipped to 95.92 from 97.62 in the previous year (2014-15).
As has been the trend, girls have fared better than boys in the SSLC examinations in the district. A total of 39,649 candidates including 19,962 boys and 19,687 girls, appeared for the examinations. Of them, 38,033 passed the examinations, registering a pass percentage of 95.92.
While 94.14 percentage of boys passed, it is 97.73 for girls.
Overall pass performance
The district stood 12th among the districts in overall pass performance. Schools situated in the rural areas and semi urban areas, Thuraiyur and Samayapuram in particular, edged the city based schools in producing State and district ranks.
H. Divyashree of Zamindar Higher Secondary School, Thuraiyur, was among the State second rank holders and the district topper with a score of 498 marks out of 500. She lost the State first rank just by a mark. She scored 98 in Tamil and centum in English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science.
The honour of district level second rank went to six candidates. T. Loshini of S.V.V. HS School, Vairichettipalayam, B. Abinayah, R. Navitha Shri, A. Srinithi of Sowdambambika Matriculation Girls HS School, Thuraiyur and S. Kameswari and P. Prithika of Vimala Matriculation HS School secured the second rank with 497. In the State level, they secured third rank. As many as 14 students shared the district level third rank by securing 496. They were P. Aadhavan of Mullai HSS, Thottiam, R. Snega of Raj Vidya Bhavan Matriculation HSS, Thuraiyur, A.K.R. Rubika and R.A. Praveen of Sowdambika Matriculation HSS, Thuraiyur, B. Vyomicaa and C.N. Nishaanth of Vimaya Matriculation HS School, Thuraiyur, M. Afrah Khanam, M. Akshaya, A. Niesha, V. Sanjana and B.S. Arulmonic of S.R.V. Matriculation HS School, Samayapuram, A. Harsheeni of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Matriculation HS School, B. Arun Muthu Pandi Raj of SBIOA Matriculation HS School, Airport and P. Charumathi of St. Little Flower Matriculatiion HS School, Kattur.
In the Government school category, G. Sowndharya of Government Girls HS School, Mannachannallur secured the district first rank with 494 marks. The second rank went S. Jayabharathi of Government Girls HS School, Thottiyam, M. Priyadharshini and S. Shivani of Government Girls HS School, Mannachanallur. They secured 493 marks. E. Divyapriya of Government Girls HS School, Mettupalayam and S. Pandiselvam of Government High School, Kallakkampatty got the district level third rank.
Collector K.S. Palanisamy, who honoured the State and district toppers with books, said that the government schools had fared well in producing toppers and overall pass percentage. It had attained a pass percentage of 94.68 as against the overall percentage of 95.92.
N. Anandi, Chief Educational Officer, said that out of 424 schools, 200 had produced centum results in the district.
Of them, 74 were government schools.
