Banks in Tiruchi district have been fixed a target of Rs. 85.10 crore to be advanced as credit for self-help groups (SHGs) during the current financial year, Collector T. Soundiah has said.
Speaking at a bankers' committee meeting here on Wednesday, Mr. Soundiah said during the previous financial year 7,515 groups have been advanced Rs. 85.28 crore including Rs. 9 crore given as revolving funds to 1,500 SHGs and Rs. 8.24 crore advanced as economic credit. Banks have exceeded the target of Rs.65 crore fixed for the previous financial year, he said. During the previous year, 169 persons have been provided credit to the tune of Rs. 8 crore under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme, while 497 beneficiaries have been extended Rs. 2.79 crore under the THADCO scheme. About 2,174 rural beneficiaries have been advanced Rs. 20,000 each as soft loans at 4 per cent interest under the Indira Awas Yojana. Under this scheme, a total of Rs. 4.35 crore has been given as credit.
He appealed to the bankers to extend their full cooperation to the district administration in the implementation of the government schemes.
He also presented a certificate and prize to the Indian Overseas Bank for achieving maximum credit disbursement during 2008-09.
