In an endeavor to create employment for poor women of neighbouring villages, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) distributed 50 tailoring machines here on Friday.
The beneficiaries had successfully completed four month training in tailoring conducted by the BHEL’s Women’s Welfare Association recently. The second batch of 50 women is undergoing training and they will be provided with the tailoring machines in another two months after the completion of the same.
A. V. Krishnan, Executive Director, BHEL, and Rajam Krishnan distributed the machines to the poor women.
T. Anandan, General Manager, Human Resource, speaking on the occasion, advised the recipients to take advantage of the tailoring training programme offered by BHEL to improve their economic condition.
Forming part of BHEL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity for 2009-10, BHEL has undertaken many initiatives in the areas of employment generation, environment protection, community development, education and disaster or calamity management.
The beneficiaries were selected based on the recommendations of the local authorities of the local bodies of Thuvakudi, Navalpattu, Koothapar and Krishnasamudram.
In the last one year, BHEL has provided library building, furniture, books, toilets and compound walls to the four government schools in Theneripatty and Anna Nagar at a total cost of Rs.42 lakhs.
E. Kayambu, Kayal Vizhi, Rajasekaran and Sivaji Ganesan, Presidents of Thuvakkudi Municipality, Navalpatu Panchayat, Koothappar Town Panchayat and Krishnasamudram Panchayat, respectively, participated in the function.
