The Mahila Court here on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 31-year-old man to four years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor in Thathiengarpet police station limits in the district in July 2017.

The court also slapped fine of ₹5,000 on S. Palraj. The incident took place when the class X girl was proceeding towards a farm to fetch water. Palraj intercepted and took her to a check dam where he sexually assaulted her.

The girl bit the thumb of Palraj and escaped from the scene. The crime came to light after the girl narrated it to her mother on whose complaint a case under Sections 7 and 8 of POCSO Act was registered against Palraj. The trial was conducted at the Mahila Court, which pronounced the judgement on Thursday. Palraj was lodged in Tiruchi Central Prison, a press release said.
