As many as 1,706 cases were settled with a relief of Rs.4.37 crore at the Lok Adalat held on the district court campus here on Saturday.
Most of the disputes settled on the occasion pertained to motor vehicle accident cases.
In all, 275 motor vehicle cases were settled for Rs. 4.06 lakh. Besides, 65 civil cases were settled for about Rs.15.25 lakh. Under the pre-litigation category, 54 cases were settled including 50 cases of non-performing assets for Rs. 32.92 lakh.
The largest number of beneficiaries were those who got orders from the judicial officers directing local bodies on issuing birth or death certificates.
As many as 1,367 persons got the orders in litigation and pre-litigation disputes.
In all, 10 committees comprising judicial officers and legal advisors were constituted for the adalat.
They interacted with the litigant public before fixing the sum for settlement.
C. Raghavan, Principal District Judge, S. Balarajamanickam, Special District Judge, S. Umamaheswari, Additional District Judge, S. Malathy, Special Sub-Judge and Geetha, Judicial Magistrate participated in the adalat.
