The city Shadow Police on Thursday arrested two persons, allegedly wholesale dealers of cannabis (ganja), along with one kilo of the contraband.

According to A. Pramod Kumar, Assistant Commissioner (Control Room), the two accused – Anzar of Pallikal, and Hamza of Perumathura – were suppliers of ganja, in parcels of one to two kilos, to retail peddlers. Several students were among their clients and it was by following some students that the Shadow Police team managed to reach the accused, he said.

Both the accused, he said, were earlier working in the Gulf and had begun their ganja dealings after returning to the State capital. They used to source the ganja in wholesale from Usilampatti in Tamil Nadu, bring them to city hidden in loads of vegetables or via train, and stock the same in a shed close to their home. Several retail peddlers in the city were clients of the duo, the police said. The two were produced before court and remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
