The University College student who attempted suicide recently has applied for transfer from the institution.

The first-year undergraduate student has sought an intercollege transfer to SN College, Varkala, and has submitted requests to the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University and the Principal of University College. Despite having completed two semesters in her current course, the student has expressed willingness to repeat the course in the selected college from the first year. In her suicide note, the student had claimed that campus politics and an unfavourable academic environment at the college had led her to take the step. She, however, backtracked later and said she wrote the note under stress.

In a statement, All India Save Education Committee State secretary M. Shajarkhan said the student’s request for transfer validated the complaints about this. Such instances must be probed in detail, he said.
