A police sub inspector was placed on suspension on Monday for assaulting a 65-year-old retired headmaster.

K. Sanjaykumar Gurudin DIG (Thiruvananthapuram Range) and Additional City Police Commissioner, issued the order suspending Kilimanoor SI P.K. Arun for allegedly assaulting Vijayakumar, Attingal block president of Congress (S) and former headmaster of the Government LP School, Venjaramoodu.

Mr. Vijayakumar, from Kilimanoor, was assaulted on the night of June 28. He was at the Kilimanoor junction waiting for an autorickshaw when the police team led by Mr. Arun arrived. Returning after attending to a call at a bar where a fight had broken out, the police officer reportedly accused Mr. Vijayakumar of being drunk. He allegedly caned him before letting him go. Since he had to attend a party State meet in Thrissur the next day, Mr. Vijayakumar was able to seek medical help only on July 1. He then lodged a complaint with the DySP, Attingal.
