Seven held on charges of drug trade

Seven persons were arrested by the police on Monday following a raid on a centre where drugs were allegedly being supplied to students. The police said the raid was conducted at Attukal under the Fort police station.

Those arrested have been identified as Sarath, who allegedly led the illegal drug trade; and his accomplices Arun, Vishnu, Arun Kumar, Akhil, Ananthu, and Sudheesh. The police said that a person had died in the area following drug overdose. Sarath, who was arrested in connection with the case, resumed the illegal operation after coming out on bail.

A police team led by Assistant Commissioner (Narcotic Cell) R. Dathan confiscated drugs from the centre.

The operation was conducted on the basis of a tip-off received by Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Sanjay Kumar Garudin.
