The State Election Commissioner (SEC) has directed authorities concerned to provide the basic amenities at the counting centres and the centres set up for distributing polling materials.

A commission release on Friday said that block panchayat secretaries and electoral registration officers in urban local bodies have been told to ensure the supply of power, drinking water and toilet facilities at the centres before October 27. The officers have been told to enlist the support of the Kerala State Electricity Board Limited and the Kerala Water Authority for providing the basic amenities at the centres. Generators should be provided at the centres till the counting of votes is completed. Due facilities should be provided to the officers who reach the centres for setting the names and symbols of candidates in the electronic voting machines.

Block panchayat secretaries and electoral registration officers have been entrusted with the distribution and collection of poling materials.

They have to collect the materials from the district centres and provide them at the local distribution centres.

Materials for the election on November 2 would be ready for distribution on November 1 and the materials for the elections on November 5 would be ready for distribution on November 4.

When Non-Resident Indians reach the polling station to cast vote, they should furnish the original passport.

The commission has warned candidates against driving nails into trees for displaying their election boards. Such boards would be removed by the anti-defacement squad, the release said.
