Two men armed with machetes attacked an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police when he attempted to execute an arrest warrant at Mohanapuram in Pothencode police station limits on Monday.

The police identified the officer as Mohan. The incident took place when Mohan attempted to arrest one Shamnad, who is an accused in several cheating cases.

The police said Shamnad, along with his brother, Sajad, attacked Mohan.

The police arrested them subsequently and produced them before the court on the charge of causing grievous hurt and attacking an officer to prevent him from executing his duty under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The court remanded them in judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
