A history-sheeter, who attacked a police sub-inspector (SI) who was attempting to take him into custody after he threatened the public at Chekkalamukku Junction on Sunday, was arrested by the Sreekariam police.

According to Sheen Tharayil, Circle Inspector, Medical College, Anilkumar alias Kattumakkan, 34, of Vikas Nagar, Sreekariam, had threatened the public and unleashed terror at Chekkalamukku Junction around 9.30 p.m. on Sunday. On being alerted by the people, Sreekariyam sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar reached the spot. While he was attempting to take Anilkumar into custody, the accused attacked him, biting him on the hand, injuring the officer. Though he tried to flee, the police overpowered him. Anilkumar had been released from jail only recently after being convicted for attempting to murder his father, the police said. He was also an accused in cases of attacking the manager of the Sreekariam outlet of the State Beverages Corporation and snatching money at knifepoint from one person at Pettah. He had lost one of his legs during a clash with rivals at Sreekariam a few of years ago.
