A 40-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train near Vanchiyoor on Saturday. A.V. Maniyan, who hailed from Wadakkanchery, was found dead on the railway track near the Uppidamoodu bridge around 7.30 a.m. The Vanchiyoor police, quoting an eye-witness, said the incident occurred between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m.

Maniyan has been staying at a rented facility at Ulloor with his son, wife and mother-in-law. “They had relocated to the city recently as his son was undergoing treatment at the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) for cancer. Maniyan is said to have been mentally disturbed of late. The preliminary investigation pointed towards a suicide,” Vanchiyoor sub-inspector V. Ashok Kumar said.
