The Kerala Police on Tuesday piloted an ambulance carrying a 52-year-old man requiring an urgent liver transplant from Thalassery to Thiruvananthapuram in less than six hours.

The patient, Suresh, is a resident of Kodiyeri in Kannur district.

He had been under treatment at a private hospital in the capital for the past eight months.

However, he had to return home to participate in the funeral of his younger brother.

At the time, the hospital authorities informed him that a liver which matched his blood group had been harvested from the body of an accident victim, identified as Selvan, a resident of Kanyakumari district. They requested him to reach the hospital at the earliest.
