The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is exploring ways to diverse to other tourism sectors and to go for a consumer-centric business model for its 69 properties, including 30 hotels, to consolidate its strength
The public sector unit is taking the step with the backing of its annual revenue crossing Rs.100 crore in the last three financial years and registering a profit of Rs.13.8 crore in 2014-15.
The corporation, which owns the largest hotel chain in the State, is also going for business process integration, consumer-based brand equity, proper deployment of human resource and alternative sources of income. The corporation is trying to increase the footfall to its properties by improving the quality of service and products being offered.
The plan is to reorganise the whole business operation in a proper conceptual frame work in tune with the mission, vision and objective of the KTDC, official sources told The Hindu . The government has given the nod to the plan, for which the Institute of Management in Kerala, University of Kerala, will carry out a study at a cost of Rs.20 lakh.
Study report
The proposed changes will be based on the study report that will be submitted to the KTDC in February next year. The view of the guests, travel agents, tour operators, employees, trade union leaders and that of the former chairpersons and managing directors will be taken into account while preparing the report.
KTDC Chairman Vijayan Thomas said the revenue of the corporation has gone up from Rs.105 crore during 2013-14 to Rs.138 crore during 2014-15 despite tough competition from the private players. This was achieved by improving the services and effective utilisation of assets and human resource, he said.
