The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has informed the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights that it has directed its distribution advisory committee to take time-bound action to set up automatic circuit breaking system in the power transmission lines in the State.

The KSEB said this in a report it had submitted to the commission regarding the action taken in the incident wherein a student was electrocuted at Chengannur after he came into contact with power lines.

The board informed the commission that awareness programmes on the safety measures to be adopted while handling electricity had been conducted in 1,000-odd schools in the State.

A mobile helpline number – 94960 61061 – had been arranged for the public to inform the board about unsafe power lines.

The board said that a compensation of Rs.5 lakh had been given to the family of the deceased child, as per the directive of the commission. — Special Correspondent
