Some 28 sovereigns of gold were stolen from a house at Chempakasseri here on the wee hours of Sunday. Unidentified persons gained entry to the house after bending the bars of a window on the ground floor before decamping with ornaments kept in cupboards, a digital camera, and five watches.
The Vanchiyoor police said the burglary took place when the owner of the house, Sreekanth, who works in the marketing wing of an English newspaper in city, and his wife were away.
Sreekanth’s father, Krishnamoorthy, was awake till 12.30 a.m., watching television in the ground floor, the police said. The burglars possibly entered the house after he went to bed. The family came to know of the incident only in the morning, the police said.
The police have registered a case. The fingerprints and forensic personnel visited the spot and gathered evidence, the police said.
