Bringing an end to the festivities, the Ganeshotsav procession and cultural meet will be held in the city on Tuesday. The celebrations had begun on September 10.
Processions carrying the Ganesha idols will converge at the Pazhavangady Ganapathy temple from various parts of the district at 3 p.m. The idols have been installed at 1,008 centres across the district and around two lakh houses, celebration committee chairman G. Madhavan Nair and other office-bearers of the Ganeshotsav Trust Committee said at a press conference.

A cultural meet that will be attended by State Ministers, people’s representatives, and cultural and spiritual leaders will be held on the temple premises. Later, the procession will commence from East Fort and pass through Overbridge, Ayurveda College junction, Statue, Palayam, AKG Centre, General Hospital, Pattoor, Pettah, Chakka and All Saints College junction before reaching Shanghumughom where the idols will be immersed in the sea. Idols with heights ranging from three feet to 30 feet will be taken during the procession.
In view of the recent floods, the organisers had decided to do away with pomp and splendour. The amount of ₹50 lakh, which will be saved by cutting down on the festivities, will be utilised for those affected by the flood. Notebooks will be distributed among 10,000 schoolchildren in these areas by the end of the month.
A total of 5,000 school bags will also be given away. Repairs of damaged houses will also be taken up, organisers said.
