The State government’s Urja Kerala Mission projects will catapult the State to the top league in power production, Minister for Electricity M.M. Mani has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating a 33-kV substation and an electrical section office at Aryanad here on Wednesday.

The government was trying to generate maximum energy at minimum cost, Mr. Mani said.

The Power Department was adopting new ways to enhance electricity generation.

The five-point Urja mission was a part of this initiative, he said.

Steps were under way to generate 1,000 MW of solar energy. Solar panels were being set up in houses, on dams, government buildings, and in schools to generate electricity. The completion of small-scale hydel projects would contribute a further 300 MW of electricity, he said.

A lot of changes were taking place across the world in electricity generation, and the Kerala State Electricity Board was aiming at revamping things in the State too, the Minister said.
