The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the case relating to the attempt on the life of Mathrubhumi reporter V.B. Unnithan.

CBI Director Amar Pratap Singh informed Chief Minister Oommen Chandy that it was because of the shortage of staff that the takeover of the case was delayed.

It was in the context of the letter written to the CBI by the Chief Minister on October 13 that the agency speeded up the takeover of the case. The notification referring the case to the Central agency was issued by the government on July 22.
