Assistance for ophthalmic aid

: The Department of Social Justice has issued orders allowing financial assistance of up to Rs.5,000 to those with poor eyesight, for purchasing high-powered ophthalmic aid.

Those who require magnifying glasses and telescope-mounted spectacles will be eligible for this assistance. They will have to submit a bill for the same, vouched for by an ophthalmologist, a press release issued here said.

In the current financial year, a sum of Rs. 25 lakh will be utilised for this scheme.

It is being implemented jointly by the Kerala Social Security Mission, Social Justice Department and the Handicapped Persons’ Welfare Corporation, Social Justice Minister M.K. Muneer said in a press release here on Tuesday.
