All-out effort to clean flood-hit areas

Volunteers, officials from local bodies in the capital take part in the activity

Local self-government institutions in the district have been in the forefront of the massive clean-up drive in flood-affected areas of Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts. Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat president V.K. Madhu has been spearheading the efforts.

Parts of the severely hit Pandanad grama panchayat in Chengannur were cleaned by volunteers and officials from Kollayil, Vakkom, Vilappil, Elakamon, Balaramapuram, Parassala, Chirayinkeezhu, Pothencode, Vithura, Peringamala and Aryancode grama panchayats; Kilimanoor and Athiyannoor block panchayats; and Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat.

The cleaning drive under way at Budhannoor in Chengannur is taken up jointly by those from Uzhamalakkal and Vembayam grama panchayats, Nedumangad block panchayat, and Nedumangad municipality. The efforts in Puliyoor grama panchayat are being led by those from Mudakkal, Manambur, Kattakada, and Malayinkeezhu grama panchayats.

While a team from Karakulam grama panchayat is involved in similar efforts in Cheriyanad grama panchayat, a group from Mangalapuram and Perunkadavila grama panchayats are involved in the drive in Thiruvanvandoor. Activities in Thalavady grama panchayat are being undertaken by teams from Vellarada grama panchayat and Perunkadavila block panchayat.

Pathanamthitta

In Pathanamthitta, the sanitation drive in Kadapra, Ranni and Koyipuram grama panchayats are being led by teams from Karode, Kallara and Pullambara grama panchayats respectively.

According to an official release here, Mr. Madhu has been leading the drive by camping in Chengannur for the past four days.
