Year-long fete to mark ‘Vayalum Veedum’ jubilee

Year-long celebrations have been planned by All India Radio, Thiruvananthapuram station, to mark the golden jubilee of the broadcast of ‘Vayalum Veedum’ (farm and home), a programme that dealt with agriculture and rural development.

The programmes will get under way at the Sanghamaithri Farmers’ Training Hall at Pallichal on Tuesday with a quiz for farmers.

Eleven teams comprising two farmers each, selected from areas coming under the offices of each Agriculture Assistant Directors in the district, have been selected for the quiz.

It will be first of a series of quiz that will be held across the State. The winners of each district-level competition will compete against each other at a finale that will be held in Thiruvananthapuram in December.

Farmers’ meet

Later on the day, a farmers’ get-together and interactive programme will be inaugurated by Kerala Agricultural University Vice Chancellor P. Rajendran. The session will be chaired by AIR Station Director R.C. Gopal.

Experts in the field of agriculture will speak on New government — new expectations; priorities for agriculture in Kerala. The speakers will include former Director of Agriculture Department R. Haley, State Horticulture Mission Director K. Prathapan and Agriculture Department Additional Director A.M. Sunil Kumar.
