Excise Commissioner Rishi Raj Singh on Sunday conducted a surprise raid on a beer and wine parlour at Thiruvallam and unearthed the illegal sale of Indian-made foreign liquor there.
Two persons, beer parlour manager Shaji and employee Salin, were arrested. Parlour licensee Rajendran was arraigned as third accused in the case.
Besides Mr. Rishi Raj Singh, Additional Excise Commissioner A. Vijayan took part in the raid.
The parlour has been closed down. Further action will be taken on the basis of the report in the case.
During inspection, the officials also found illegal construction at the parlour in violation of the building plan. Liquor was served to customers in cubicles constructed illegally, Excise Special Squad circle inspector T. Ani Kumar said. A case had been registered in this connection too.
The same team inspected a toddy shop at Kattakada and found toddy over 48 hours old being sold in violation of rules.
Over 30 litres of toddy that had exceeded its shelf life was seized, and two persons arrested. A case has been registered.
