An essay competition is being organised as part of the Children’s Science Congress to be held in Thiruvananthapuram along with the 97 th session of the Indian Science Congress (ISC) from January 3 to7, 2010. The ISC is being hosted jointly by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the University of Kerala.
The essay competition is being conducted for the students of Kerala, currently studying in X, XI and XII standards. The competition is open for students of all streams and categories. The topics of the essays are:
1. Scientific/Technological solutions to a common problem that the people in your neighbourhood are facing. 2. Impact of climate change in the Indian Region.
3. Role of Science and Technology in food security.
The essays, not exceeding 1,500 words, must be handwritten in English and on one side of the paper.
The first page of the essay should contain the topic, name of the student, category; State/ CBSE/ ISC/other (provide details about the other category), standard in which the student is studying, school address (including the students class/ division), residential address, telephone numbers, e-mail address, name, address and telephone number of the head of the institution. Each essay should be accompanied by an attestation letter from the head of the institution. A student is eligible to submit only one essay. Essays in the prescribed format should be sent to R. Neetha, (Convener), Children’s Science Congress Structural Dynamic Division (SDD), Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram – 695022, Kerala on or before November 25.
The authors of the three best essays on each of the topics, selected by a team of experts, will be invited to attend the Children’s Science Congress – 2010 and to make a presentation.
