9,514 nominations found valid

Of the total 12, 564 nominations received for civic body polls in the district, the papers of 9,514 candidates were found to be valid.

According to a senior official in the District Collectorate, out of the total 9,344 papers received for the 1,299 grama panchayat wards, 7,147 were found valid.

As for the 11 block panchayats, a total of 1,011 nominations were received, of which 769 are valid. There are 155 posts in the block panchayats.

Out of the 220 nominations received for 26 posts in the district panchayat, 124 were found to be valid. A total of 1,018 papers have been received for 100 posts in the city Corporation, of which 678 were valid.

For the four municipalities — Neyyattinkara, Nedumangad, Attingal and Varkala — a total of 971 nominations have been received, of which 707 were valid.

The official said scrutiny of nomination papers for certain wards in grama panchayats was postponed for Friday.

“After the scrutiny of those papers, we will be able to get a final figure for valid papers and also how many the nominations papers are rejected,” the official said.

The last date for withdrawing nominations is October 17.
