Yakshagana literary conference in Puttur from Friday

A three-day Akhila Bharata Yakshagana Bayalata Sahitya Sammelana (all India conference on Yakshagana literature) will begin in Puttur from Friday. Moodambailu C. Gopalakrishna Shastry will preside over the conference, according to a release.

Organised by the Karnataka Samskritika Kala Prathisthana, Bengaluru and the Department of Kannada and Culture, the conference will see Yakshagana performances from various schools, sessions and talamaddale. It will be conducted on the premises of Mahalingeshwar temple, the release said.

The first session on the inaugural day will be on Paduvalapaya school of Yakshagana at 2 p.m.

It will cover topics such as contribution of Yakshagana ‘prasanga’ literature to Kannada, varieties of ‘bada badagu natya’, women in Yakshagana and forms of Yakshagana education.

Later there will be ‘Kamsa Digvijaya’ show of Badagu Thittu (northern school) by children.

It will be followed by ‘sannata’ titled Balavantha Basavantha by artistes of Bala Bheema Sannata Natya Sangha, Gokak, Belagavi.

Later artistes of Ghattadakore Yakshagana Kendra, Kolagala will stage ghattadakore (a form of Yakshagana) titled Babruvahana.

It will be followed by Srikrishna Parijatha (another form of Yakshagana) show by artistes of Jade Siddeshwar Parijatha Sangha, Belagavi.

At the end children of Panchalingeshwar Bala Yakshakalavrunda, Bayar, Kasaragod would stage Tenku Thittu school of Yakshagana titled Daksha Yajna.

Saturday’s session will be on Moodalapaya form.

It will cover sannata, ghattadakore, Srikrishna Parijatha, gombeyata and the survival of Yakshagana.

Artistes of Padre Chandu Yakshagana Natya Sangha, Perla will stage ‘Maranadhwara’ in Tenku Thittu (southern school) style.

It will be followed by a talamaddale episode titled Shalya Sarathya by women and Magadha Vadhe show in Badagu Thittu from.

At the end there will be doddata (a form of Yakshagana) titled Srirama Darshana by artistes of Mulagunda Srikala Doddata Sangha.

In all, 12 Yakshagana artistes will be felicitated on Saturday evening and it will be followed by two more Yakshagana shows of Badagu Thittu and Tenku Thittu each.

Sunday’s events will start with a talamaddale. Later there will be an interaction with the president of the conference.

It would be followed by gombeyata and a Yakshagana show in Tenku Thittu titled Guru Dakshine.

In all, nine artistes would be felicitated at the valedictory.

Writer Taltaje Vasanth Kumara will deliver the valedictory address.
