The Sumanasa Kodavoor organisation will organise a drama festival at the open air theatre at Bhujanga Park here from February 11 to 17. The fest will be held with the cooperation of the Department of Kannada and Culture, Udupi City Municipal Council, Union Department of Culture and Pejawar Mutt.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, M.S. Bhat, honorary president of the organization, said that the plays to be staged at 6.30 p.m. daily during the fest at the park are: Three Roses by Taksh Theatrics troupe from Bengaluru, directed by Akshay Karthik, on February 11; Shikari by Rangayana troupe from Mysuru, directed by Prakash Belvadi, on February 12; Kattale Belaku by Rangayana troupe from Mysuru, directed by B.V. Karanth, on February 13; Neralu by Sumanasa troupe from Kodavoor, directed by Viddu Ucchil, followed by Balidana by Chandrashekhar Pratisthana troupe from Bengaluru on February 14; a Yaksha-drama Chitrapata Ramayana by Sumanasa troupe, directed by Bannanje Sanjeeva Suvarna on February 15; Gokula Nirgamana by Nandagokula troupe from Mangaluru, directed by Viddu Ucchil on February 16; and Rathayatre by Sumanasa troupe, directed by Gururaj Marpalli on February 17.
Six people would be given Ranga Sadhaka Sanman awards. They are Sudha Manur, Prakash Kunjibettu, Cheluvaraj Perampalli, Shantharam Acharya, Bhaskar Kanchan and Prabhakar Kalyani. The Yaksha Suma Award would be given to Ambatanaya Mudrady.
The fest will be inaugurated by theatre actor and director Prakash Belavadi at 6 p.m. on February 11. Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, will preside over the inaugural function.
