Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday that Nutan Kumari, wife of the slain BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Nettaru, who had been sacked from her temporary State government job, will be reappointed on humanitarian grounds.

Mr. Siddaramaiah tweeted that whenever a new government takes charge, sacking of the temporary employees hired by the previous government is a natural course. Thus, more than 150 such temporary employees appointed on contract, including Ms. Kumari, had been sacked. There was no government intervention in the same. But Ms. Kumari will be re-inducted considering her case as a special one, he said.

Earlier in the day the BJP described the sacking of Ms. Kumari as “vendetta”. Speaking to presspersons in Mangaluru, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dakshina Kannada MP and State BJP president, said that he will appeal to the Chief Minister to let Ms. Kumari continue in her job.

He will write a letter to the Chief Minister. If the government refuses, she will be provided temporary employment in any of the Union government establishments in Mangaluru such as the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT), he said. “The Congress is into vendetta politics,” Mr. Kateel alleged.

Asked why she was appointed for a limited tenure as a contract employee by the Basavaraj Bommai-led government, he said that there were some legal hurdles for regularising the services of Ms. Kumari. The BJP government had taken a legal opinion to overcome the hurdle on regularising her service, he added.

After the murder of Mr. Nettaru in Bellare in Dakshina Kannada in July, 2022, Mr. Bommai issued an order appointing Ms. Nutan in his office in Bengaluru temporarily on compassionate grounds. She was among 57 persons whose services were taken on contract by the Office of Chief Minister for Group C posts, according to official sources.

Ms. Nutan expressed her difficulty in reporting for duty in Bengaluru and hence she was deputed to the office of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner where she was posted to the section handling Chief Minister’s relief works.

She was working there since October 13, 2022.
