Vaidya Kartar Singh Dhiman, Director-General, Central Council for Research in Ayurveda, said on Saturday that more importance was being given to research in Ayurveda.

He was delivering the Graduation Day address at the SDM College of Ayurveda, here. As many as 65 undergraduates, 17 postgraduates and two Ph.D. scholars received their certificates. Two students, Ramya M., and Ashwini, received gold medals on the occasion.

Dr. Dhiman said that the passing out students should practise what they had learnt while doing their course. It was also important that they followed the Ayurveda lifestyle.

“It is only then that you will be able to tell your patients with confidence to practise the Ayurveda lifestyle,” he said.

Dr. Dhiman said that there are over five lakh Ayurveda graduates in the country. If they tell their patients to accept Ayurveda as a way of life, the entire situation would be different.

Besides the knowledge of his or her course, an Ayurveda doctor attained proficiency through his or her thought process and experience. “Money will follow you, if you follow the path of righteousness. Ayurveda is a noble profession and it encourages you to heal illnesses,” he said.

Presiding over the function, D. Veerendra Heggade, Chancellor of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University, Dharwad, said that there was a tendency to look down upon folklore medicine, which was wrong.

The SDM College of Ayurveda here had a Department of Folklore Medicine. It had documented about 3,000 combinations of folk medicines. The Department was established about 30 years ago, he said.
