Palakkad division bags Overall Efficiency runners-up shield

The Palakkad Railway Division bagged the General Manager’s Inter-Divisional Overall Efficiency runners-up shield along with Chennai division.

Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami received the award from Southern Railway’s General Manager Rahul Jain at a programme in Chennai on Friday during the 64th Railway Week celebrations, an official release stated. Salem Division bagged the Overall Efficiency Shield.

On the occasion, Mr. Jain distributed shields to various divisions/departments/ workshops, and awards to officers and staff for their meritorious performance.

Among the different branches, personnel and safety branches of Palakkad Division won the efficiency shields for the year 2018-19, while the electrical (general service) branch won the shield for its initiatives on energy conservation.

In the operational side of Palakkad Division, 2018-19 was a robust year, as it was able to handle 5.85 million tonnes of freight and 74.7 million passengers, said the release.

During the period, the division earned an aggregate of ₹1,207 crore revenue, which is an increase of 2.98% compared to the previous year.

The division earned ₹453 crore from freight segment, recording an increase of 22%. Earnings from the passenger business were ₹672 crore, while the same from other coaching area, such as parcels, luggage and ticket-checking, came up to ₹40.01 crore.

Sundry earnings, such as earnings from scrap disposal, vehicle parking, catering and commercial publicity, fetched ₹43 crore during the last financial year.

Palakkad Division transported 4.23 million tonnes of coal during year 2018-19, which is about 72.29% of the total loading of the division.

Apart from coal, the division also loaded cement, POL (Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants), containers, fertilizer, food grains during the previous financial year.

The 64th Railway Week Celebrations of Southern Railway is being held all over its jurisdiction from April 10 to April 16.
