One killed, six injured in car accident near Mangaluru

The seven were returning to their hostel in Deralakatte when the driver lost control near an overbridge

A 20-year-old man from Kasaragod was killed and six others were injured after the car in which they were travelling overturned near the overbridge in Thokkottu in the outskirts of the city early on Wednesday.

The Mangaluru City South Traffic police said all the seven were returning to their hostel in Deralakatte in the new car of Bony Mathew. Mathew and six others, who were all working in K.S. Hegde Hospital, had dinner at the hostel around 10.30 p.m. on Tuesday and had left for Someshwar beach.

The police said Mathew, who was driving, lost control near the overbridge and the car overturned around 1 a.m. Anup, sitting in the rear seat, died on the spot. Mathew and five other injured persons have been admitted to a local hospital. The deceased and the injured are from Kasaragod, the police said.
