The three-day mega ‘krishi yantra mela’ (agri-machinery fair) beginning at Puttur from January 24, will have a ‘kisan samsath’ on Saturday at 2 p.m. providing an opportunity for farmers to interact with Members of Parliament.
To be presided over by the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, it will see presence of MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel (Dakshina Kannada), Ananth Kumar Hegde (Uttara Kannada), Karunakaran P. (Kasaragod), Shoba Karandlaje (Udupi-Chikkamagaluru), Muddahanumegowda (Tumakuru), Prathap Simha (Mysuru) and Chandrappa (Chitradurga).
Organised by the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (CAMPCO), the mela will be conducted on the premises of Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology, president of CAMPCO Konkodi Padmanabha told presspersons here on Thursday. It is expected to attract 1.5 lakh farmers.
There would be a session on neera production from coconut and solar energy on Sunday at 10.30 a.m. and at 2.30 p.m., respectively. A session on wild animal control in agriculture would be conducted on Monday at 10 a.m.
He said a postal cover on late Varanashi Subraya Bhat, founder of CAMPCO, would be released. The cooperative has instituted an award after late Mr. Bhat from this year. It would be given away to best farm machines or equipment development by students.
Mr. Padmanabha said arrangements would be made for farmers to visit the cooperative’s chocolate factory in Puttur. The cooperative would sell its chocolates in the venue of fair at 40 per cent discount. There would be 240 stalls. As many as 45 farm machineries and equipment developed by different engineering students would be displayed.
