Midterm school vacation in DK from Oct. 1 to 15

Agreeing with the demand for a change in the dates of midterm vacation for schools so that students can celebrate Dasara, Commissioner, Department of Public Instruction, on Friday passed an order fixing the holidays from October 1 to 15. In the order, the Commissioner said the new dates will apply only to primary and secondary schools in Dakshina Kannada, and the schools in the district will reopen on October 16.

The vacation for schools in the State is between October 6 and 20. D. Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, had met Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar and sought the 15-day midterm vacation from September 30, since Dasara starts on September 29 and ends on October 8.

In his letter to the Deputy Commissioner on September 18, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Y. Shivaramaiah said examinations in Dakshina Kannada will end by September 30 and vacation can be granted between October 1 and 15.
