N. Jayaram, sociologist and professor of research methodology at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, will be presented the Dr. Paduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Award for 2011 in Bangalore on February 11.
The late Paduru Gururaja Bhat (1924-1978) was a teacher, historian, and researcher par excellence, especially in Tulu history and culture.
Dr. Paduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Trust president P. Sripathi Tantry told presspersons here on Thursday that Governor H.R. Bhardwaj would present the award to Dr. Jayaram at the Banquet Hall of Raj Bhavan. The award carries a citation and Rs. 50,000 cash. The Udupi-based trust had instituted the award in 2010 for recognising outstanding contributions in the field of history, archaeology, sociology, and other social sciences. Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister M. Govinda Rao, retired judge of Karnataka High Court K. Jagannath Shetty, and writer and educationist K.E. Radhakrishna will be the guests of honour at the awards presentation function.
Dr. Jayaram, who hails from Udupi, has written a number of books and several articles dealing with different branches of Sociology.
