Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil on Friday asked a former councillor to take the lead in creating a parking facility at Bikarnakatte Kaikamba, where a shandy is held every Saturday.
During the weekly phone-in programme, the former councillor complained that police were towing away vehicles of people who come to the shandy.
“There is no earmarked parking facility. No announcement is made on where the vehicles towed away have been kept,” the former councillor complained.
Mr. Patil said: “As a former councillor, you should take the lead in creating parking facility,” and told him that vehicles are usually towed to the jurisdictional police station.
“A call can be made to the police control room to know the place the vehicle is towed.”
‘Install board’
Mr. Patil directed the jurisdictional traffic police officer to install a ‘no parking’ board near the shandy.
When a 68-year-old man questioned the action of towing away his two-wheeler parked on the side of the pavement in Shedigudde and fining him ₹1,650, Mr. Patil said it was wrong to park the vehicle on the pavement and block the way for pedestrians.
The fine collected by the police is as per the charges prescribed by the State government, Mr. Patil said.
