You can now enjoy the eye calming greenery, the cool waters of the Swarna, a pleasant sunset near the Delta Beach and Triveni Sangam, where three rivers meet, thanks to a boathouse service launched here.

The boathouse, Thirumala Cruise, 120 ft long and 20 ft wide, said to be the biggest in Udupi district, is now available for both tourists who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the district and also for local people. The Triveni Sangam, where the Swarna, the Sita and a rivulet, the Yenehole, meet, has its own charm and so does the Delta Beach.

Fishermen going about their work in their small traditional boats in the Swarna is another attraction.

The boathouse has five rooms, all air-conditioned, with attached toilet and a big hall on its enclosed deck, where parties can be held. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available on the boathouse. However, alcohol is not permitted.

The diesel-run boathouse is operated by two persons. The maintenance is overseen by an eight-member crew. As a safety measure, the boathouse is equipped with life jackets and lifeboats, and is manned by four lifeguards.

Guests on the boathouse are taken for a 15-km ride up to the Triveni Sangam and to the Santhekatte Bridge. “We want tourists to enjoy the beauty of nature on our boathouse. During an overnight stay, the boat stays in the midst of the river,” said Nagaraj B. Kundar, boathouse owner.

The rent for five persons on the boathouse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. is ₹ 11,500, while it is ₹ 12,500 for five persons from 5 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. An overnight stay, inclusive of two bedrooms, from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. will cost ₹ 22,000 for five persons. All three packages include food.

The rent for the big hall is ₹ 25,000 for 35 persons, including food, with ₹ 730 for every person thereafter. Birthday, engagement and other parties could be held at the hall. “If necessary, we can arrange pick-up from Udupi (18 km away),” said Krishna Kundar, another owner.
